Short answer

Yes, we work in Kitsap County, but only the south end closest to the Tacoma Narrows bridge. The county counted 275,611 people in 2020, and the stretch we reach takes wind off the Narrows. In the December 2018 windstorm, the Weather Service logged 52 mph at Tacoma Narrows Airport, just across the water from the Kitsap line.

Where our Kitsap coverage starts and stops

We reach Kitsap County by crossing the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Gig Harbor, the first town on the far side, is actually in Pierce County, and Kitsap County begins past it. Our coverage is the south end of Kitsap closest to the bridge. We do not cover the whole peninsula, and we will say so if your address is too far north.

None of our city pages sit inside Kitsap County. The nearest are Gig Harbor and University Place on the Pierce County side. Permit rules in Kitsap come from Kitsap County or the city your address falls in, so we confirm with the right office before any reroof.

Wind off the Narrows

The Narrows funnels wind between the peninsula and the mainland. In the December 20, 2018 windstorm, the Weather Service logged 52 mph at Tacoma Narrows Airport, 51 mph at JBLM and 43 mph in Fircrest. Roofs on the Kitsap side of that corridor take the same kind of gusts.

Wind damage starts at the edges: rake shingles, ridge caps, and tabs whose seal strip has let go. Tall firs around many homes add limb strikes and needle-packed gutters. After a storm, we photograph damage, tarp anything open, then replace lifted shingles and hand-seal the exposed edges. Our windstorm guide covers what you can check from the ground.

Roofs under tall trees

Much of south Kitsap is wooded, and roofs under heavy canopy stay damp long after the rain stops. Moss grows on shaded slopes, needles fill valleys and gutters, and the debris holds water against the shingles. We remove moss by hand, clear valleys and talk through gutter guards that hold up under fir.

When a roof under trees is at the end of its life, we strip it, check the deck for soft spots around valleys and eaves, and rebuild with ice barrier where debris and runoff collect.
